Root Canals

COMFORTABLE TREATMENT TO ELIMINATE TOOTH PAIN

It is not uncommon for our patients to feel apprehensive about needing root canal treatment. Traditionally, root canals have been associated with pain and discomfort. This is actually quite far from the truth! Modern root canals are virtually painless procedures with the purpose of eliminating tooth pain, not causing more.

Root canals become necessary when a cavity or dental decay penetrates through the enamel and dentin of a tooth, reaching the fleshy dental pulp at the center of the tooth. At this point, the infection is in danger of spreading farther down into the jawline. Root canals allow us to prevent tooth extraction, healing a tooth that might otherwise be irreparable. Treatment removes the infection and all decayed or dead pulp from the tooth, refilling the canal in which the pulp resides (called the “root canal”) with a strong, biocompatible material. Root canals may seem daunting, but with our training and technology, your treatment at Moses Lake Dental Group will be comfortable and efficient.

OUR ROOT CANAL PROCESS

Root canals are simple procedures, and in order to ensure you are as comfortable as possible, we will completely numb the tooth area with local anesthetic before beginning treatment. If you feel anxious about your procedure, our custom sedation options are available to provide deeper levels of calm and relaxation. Each of our patients present unique situations with their tooth pain, but root canals at Moses Lake Dental Group commonly follow the same general process:

Our dentists will use a special device to remove decayed tooth material, as well as any damaged, decayed, or dead dental pulp.

With the decayed tissue removed and the infection cleaned, a dentist will then finish cleaning and shaping the area for reconstruction.

Using a strong, biocompatible filler material, a doctor will fill in the root canal of the tooth.

We’ll then finish the procedure by capping the tooth with a filling.
Once the procedure is finished, your tooth will be fully healed and back to normal!
